Happy Thursday, friends! We’re finally, FINALLY here. Through a global pandemic, an American revolution and personal issues, this bathroom finally got done. I’m truly excited. As a reminder, we decided to participate as guests in the Spring One Room Challenge to renovate our coastal kids bath. The One Room Challenge is a biannual forum -April and October- for participants to have a fun and supportive way to share their room transformations over a six week period.

Before Renovation
As a reminder, here’s where we were before.
It was a decent sized space but dark and dated. The heavy vanity definitely didn’t help.
Design Plan
Reveal Coastal Kids Bath
Trough Sink // Faucets // Soap Dish // Supply Lines // Canvas Basket // Vintage First Aid Kit // Embroidered Towels // Nautical Lights // Medicine Cabinet // Brass Towel Ring {{Similar}} // Door Knob // Striped hexagonal tiles // Direct to metal sink paint “Privilege Green” // Clare Wall Paint “Fresh Kicks” // Floor Tile
I renovated this bathroom just for the sink. It’s all I’ve ever wanted and dreamed it would be. This is a small space and the large vanity that previously lived here took up way too much of the footprint of the room and the floor. By bringing in a trough sink, we gained not only visual space to let the room breathe but also room for storage.
To acquire all of the brass fixtures for this portion of the project was a bear. Kohler only makes the fixtures for the Brockway trough sink in chrome and now nickel. Brass is not an option. So I sent them off to a brass plater to stripe the chrome finish leaving the exposed unlacquered brass. You can already see the patina around the faucets and the soap dish. I swoon every time I wash my hands which is a surplus in this quarantine.
Stool // Boat cleats // Candle // Pre-primed shiplap // Window treatment // Window frosting
We didn’t actually partner with any brands for this space with the exception of Weezie Towels and Harlem Candle Company. I love both of these women owned brands dearly. We partnered with Weezie for our {{guest bathroom}} in the last One Room Challenge and those towels are still holding up like a dream with rave reviews. So we couldn’t resist getting the bath sheets for ourselves. As for the candles, I find myself preaching the gospel of these at least once a week. I love that this brand creates these luxury scents named after the Harlem Renaissance.
Shower Curtain // Shower rod // Shower fixture // Toilet // Jute baskets // Amber shower bottles // Bottle Labels // Bath tub // White Subway tile // Blue Subway Tile // Square potty
The shower turned out to be the stuff that dreams were made of. (But also, did you peep I finally got my square potty?) I knew I wanted to keep the design simple and mirrored to our {{guest bathroom}} in here. When people’s bathroom don’t even look like they’re in the same house, I find it weird. So, I chose this simple white subway tile and paired it with the powder blue to mimic the striped floor and the guest bath. The color is almost a perfect match.
Even though this room was designed as a sophisticated, coastal kids bath that doesn’t take itself too seriously, we do take shower fixtures seriously. I used this same shower head in our guest bathroom because we love it.. It’s one of the few brass fixtures that comes with the rain shower and the sprayer, which I refuse to live without, for under $1000.
We figured since we were all in on the brass, we might as well be all in on the brass. I pulled the same fixtures for the doors in here that we chose for our bedroom which is right next door.
Can you believe this is the only “real picture” I took of this bathroom floor? What was I thinking. One of these days, I will update the post with a full picture but it’s so difficult to photograph this tight little space.
Either way, this bathroom is everything we could have hoped for. It’s whimsical, a little coastal and still feels a bit sophisticated; the perfect kids bath. And I thank you for being along for the ride. I’m also really grateful for Linda over at the Calling It Home for providing this forum and Better Homes and Gardens for their partnership. It’s been a fun ride.

***6/2/2024 edit: I just realized Home Depot now carries the tile from the floor and have adjusted this post with a link to reflect that. Woo hoo for convenience.

This is so gorgeous Victoria! The tile, the hardware, THAT SINK! Omg that sink! Beautifully done as always! Cheers to completion!
Victoria Ford says
Thank you thank you, friend! Completion at last!!!!
Andie says
So cute! Love it. I have wanted to use that sink for so long!
Victoria Ford says
the time is totally now! You rip out your bathroom sink and I’ll come help you pick out a color for your new Kohler version.
Sarah says
STUNNING! we’ve been planning (dreaming) of a kids bathroom Reno based around the 3 faucet brockway- I had NO idea different color hardware/faucets were possible, thanks for explaining your process. Did you find a brass soap dish or P trap or did you use the same process?
Victoria Ford says
Thank you! Oh I surely hope your dreams come to fruition! The three faucet would be so so so good. We just had the limited space so only went for two. Different color faucets are sorta possible with a little ingenuity and a sheer force of will lol. I actually sent everything off together (faucets, soap dish, and ptrap) so the finish would be the same. I don’t think I realized the drain would be showing or I would have sent that off too.
JeanFB says
Oh my goodness it is absolute perfection!
Victoria Ford says
Thank you! Just don’t look too closely. It still needs a few finishing touches.
Pamela Morra says
Wow! I’m in love with it! And, it was so smart to have the fixtures stripped to the brass–well worth the extra effort. Congratulations.
Victoria Ford says
I was a bit fanatical about the brass from the moment I saw the faucets and I am so so so excited with how they turned out. Thank you so much!
Erin says
This might be my favourite makeover of the one room challenge so far. Not kidding. So gorgeous. You knocked it out of the park!!! So lovely!
Victoria Ford says
That’s so special. Thank you so much. I am so glad you are lovely the space. We had a really good time creating it and seeing it take shape.
sarah rideout says
What a transformation! Love everything, it truly is whimsical and yet sophisticated.

Thank you! I’ve not ever had this much fun creating a space and it feels so good to share it with you guys.
Erin says
I always get emotional in beautiful spaces and this room makes me want to weep with joy. You did an incredible job. Every single detail is perfect. Those floors are on my ‘dream room’ list for sure!
Victoria Ford says
Oh thank you so much!!! That means everything to me. I also end up misty eyed after a project for a slightly different reason. It always moves me to have this vision for something and then to see it happen in real life just shakes me to my core every time.
Ann says
Beautiful!! Thanks for sharing
Victoria Ford says
Happily! Thank you for being here with me.
Demi says
Love the trough sink and the blue/brass combo! Great transformation!!
Victoria Ford says
Thank you! We didn’t change the footprint but it still feels like a different room to us.
Mindy Gray says
I. Am. Swooning!! You nailed it. And stripping the fixtures to brass? Unreal commitment!!
Victoria Ford says
Thank you! I had a song on my heart for brass fixtures and couldn’t shake it. I’m so thrilled they looked like I hopped they would.
Kristian says
This is so cute and fun and my jaw hit the floor over the plumbing fixtures! Thank you for sharing those beautiful bottle labels, I must have them for my amber bottles (so I’ll stop conditioning before shampooing)! Bravo!
Victoria Ford says
Haha yes! Must get those labels squared away. I’m always function over form so I find myself trying to figure out “what makes the most sense” and then I layer some design over it. This bathroom and those bottles are the truest reflection of that.
Jody says
So inspiring!
Victoria Ford says
Thank you! It was truly fun to see all our design plotting and scheming come to life.
Victoria says
Victoria & Marcus you continue to amaze with what is possible to DIY. You prove over and over again that great design can be achieved by your own hands and not cost $363836483 🙂 FLOORED (literally because those floors are 100)
Victoria Ford says
You are the best! Thank you so much! Much of this space was done by a licensed contractor (we have been up to our eyeballs at work) but you absolutely can DIY it all and when you can’t? Bring in the calvary and call the contractors.
Lauryl says
This whole room is soooo dreamy. I LOVE the sink – never seen one painted like that. Unique and beautiful. Also love the stripe around the bath tub and am OBSESSED with the floors! Would love to see more of those in a future post. So classic with a twist!
Victoria Ford says
Thank you! I was torn between this color and orange of all colors lol But this one is called “privilege green” and I took that as a sign because it was such a privilege to create this space and share it with you guys. I will absolutely bring the bathroom back. Definitely our favorite design space.
Teri says
Obsessed with the floor! It looks like a beach towel. 😍 The green sink and first aid kit are perfection.
Victoria Ford says
Yes!!!!! We have several beach tiles that look like this! You are so right! Thank you so much.
tim says
that tile detail in the tub area …. OMG I love it!! what a fantastic way to dress up the tiles and make them look so fun and chic!
Victoria Ford says
Thank you! Subway tile deserves to feel modern and fresh even after it stops “trending”.
Madeleine says
So simple and so beautiful!
Victoria Ford says
Thank you! We want the texture to speak for most of the room so we kept it very clean and easy.
Liz says
It’s absolutely beautiful!!!! That sink is amazing.
Victoria Ford says
Thank you! The sink was truly all I ever wanted.
Lisa McWilliams says
Oh my, I’m in love with your bathroom post! Having the finish stripped down to brass was a GENIUS decision!!
! Now I can’t wait to see your blog! 🙂
Victoria Ford says
Thank you! It was touch and go there but I am thrilled with the end result.
Ivy says

So so so beautifully done! What a perfect balance of the blue in the floor and the shower with the white tiles. And that sink. I die! And, I see you’re in Raleigh. Me, too! So glad to have found you!

I love it! The tile floor and the pop of green under the sink. Perfection!

Thank ya thank ya!

Ha! At the age of 54 I should have known how to monogram a single piece for a husband and wife. Duh….middle initial is centered and each spouse’s initial flanking it. Now to monogram pillows, towels etc…..😁
Victoria Ford says
Heheh it’s one of those things where you don’t realize until you do. Go forth and monogram all the things, my friend.
Lindsey says
The mix of sky blue and minty green look so perfect together!
Victoria Ford says
Thank you! A happy coincidence.
Brenda says
