Small Businesses To Shop This Saturday

Every year, I find myself shopping less and less on Black Friday and instead shopping on small business Saturday. With the exception of J. Crew, I primarily shop small and today I am sharing some of my favorite small businesses that I shared on Instagram and a few that I didn’t.

I always say I am not going to do a post about this and every year, I lie. You can see last year’s post here. But I feel so strongly about this topic. I try to make sure to feature black owned small businesses, many of whom are also woman owned small businesses because that is primarily how I shop. There’s a ton of reasons to shop small black owned business from helping to close the racial wealth gap to fostering community to strengthening local economies. For me, there are other reasons like ensuring that a woman who looks like me gets a fair shot in a very niche market (I recognize that prep isn’t for everyone) and holding other companies that don’t see or value the black dollar accountable.

Not every business on the list is a black woman owned business but many of them are and for the ones that are not, they are still incredible businesses and I proudly own something from 95% of them. I’ve included different types of businesses here from home to apparel to gifts so there’s a little something for and from everyone. Hopefully you find them useful. Happy shopping.

Urban Ember– We used Urban Ember to make our custom bottle for our bathroom in the One Room Challenge and she was incredible. She responded to my email instantly and it was just a fantastic experience.

Lingua Franca NYC– Custom, feminist, cashmere sweaters. Go forth.

Blakely Made– I have a long standing love affair with Blakely’s work. She was kind enough to send me a print of my favorite! You can see it hanging above the couch in my profile picture. It’s the one with the chairs.

Polished Picks– Another amazing shop we used to complete the One Room Challenge. Their rugs are to die for and I couldn’t resist one in this little space. And it doesn’t hurt that they are local so I got to shop an North Carolina Small Business and Women Owned Business at Once.

Emayville– Repeating myself here. One Room Challenge again. Love her! Love her work. Her top knot print made my life.

Resipsa– I’ve worn my Res Ipsa loafer before on the blog during our first trip to Nantucket and pretty much also wear them daily. We love the guys behind Res Ipsa. They are the most kind and stylish men you’ll ever meet.

Felix Doolittle– We purchased these fancy little return addresses the day we moved into our house and literally every person who has received a letter from us in the last few years has texted to say they love them. I can not say enough good things about them.

Mirth Studio– Patterned. Hardwood. Floor. Tiles. I don’t feel like I have to say anything more. Oh except that you can use code JINGLE for 20% off.
