COVID-19 Precautions
I feel like this is my new thing; if we leave the house, we talk safety first. But like I discussed in my Charleston post, this is always my primary concern lately, especially since the Melting Pot is an indoor restaurant.
We went to The Melting Pot for their Thursday date night. In spite of the Thursday special, the restaurant was not too crowded (We also made 5:30 reservations so take this with a grain of salt). But tables were appropriately distanced from each other with a “table closed for social distancing” sign every other table to ensure at least 6 ft of distance.
Our waitress wore a mask and we wore mask any time she was in our line of sight. We were also the only people seated in our section for most of our dinner. All in all, the restaurant seemed to follow our states guidance though I would still air on the side of caution if you are vulnerable. Many locations have however taken to creating outdoor seating areas long before COVID-19 so yours maybe be one of them. You can check it out here.
So What is Thursdate at the Melting Pot?
Thanks to the aforementioned quarantine, most couples haven’t actually had a ton of time for quality time. Sure there’s been time for moving houses and working back to back on conference calls and virtual learning but there hasn’t actually been much time for romance. And since August is Romance Awareness Month (who knew?), it’s the perfect time to put quality time back into relationships.
Because of it, Melting Pot is doing Thursdate each week. You make the reservation and Melting Pots got your back with the rest including roses, candle light and a four course menu.
The Menu
Thursdate at the Melting Pot consists of four courses; cheese fondue, followed by salads for each of you, an entree fondue to share and a sparkling chocolate fondue.
The entree includes filet mignon, Atlantic salmon, shrimp, savory teriyaki sirloin. We substituted in a mushroom ravioli and chicken breast for the seafood. (Brilliant decision!) The teriyaki was our favorite part of the entree, but the sparkling chocolate fondue was our favorite part of dinner. We aren’t inherently dessert people but this was so fun and the white chocolate appealed to us both since Marcus doesn’t actually like regular chocolate.
The Skinny
Marcus hates what he refers to as “manufactured fun”. It’s an ongoing thing in our relationship. So we were hesitant to go on a date night and have a night constructed around romance. Turns out, we loved it.
From start to finish, our date took about two hours. During that time, we were able to relax and chat pretty safely and freely. There were no other couples in our line of vision for the majority of our dinner. So for a time we were able to kick back and pretend there wasn’t a pandemic. It was a joy to reconnect outside of our house while wearing jeans, a truly humbling experience these days. All in all, we had a great night and I would absolutely recommend. Perhaps we are sold on the manufactured fun after all.
Oh and thank you to the staff at the Melting Pot at the Raleigh location. While Thursdate is available at any location, this is our local location and they were absolutely wonderful!
