Today’s the day. After much ado about something, I am finally sharing the first of the Coastal Grandmother’s Cottage Reveals. If you are new here, my mom is moving close to us from out of state. So close in fact, she is moving into our old home. Because we want it to feel more like her than like us, we’ve given it a little refresh from top to bottom for the One Room Challenge. Since I am obviously working with more than one room, I’ll share the reveals of the home in a series of posts. And I’ll start with this one, the first completed set of spaces in this house.
Primary Bedroom
Bedroom Before
Bedroom Afters
I wanted this room to feel elegant and traditional. The jumping off point for this space was the cherry cannonball bed. I found it on Facebook Marketplace from a boutique hotel that was clearing out. And while I know that brown and red woods are on the “outs”, I think they are classic and traditional. Plus this is very much my mom’s style.
From there, I worked with Clare who gifted “Penthouse”, the perfect greige paint for the walls, and “Good Jeans”, a muted blue, for the trim. I’ve worked with Clare before and always love their curated selection of paints. When I am making this many decisions in a small window of time, it helps to have narrowed choices that will show up to my front door.
I wanted to keep the bedding simple but still fun. Like me, my mom has never met a stripe she didn’t like so this duvet set, from The Company Store, felt perfect for her! I’ve been sleeping in this space since I’ve been here round the clock and I can attest to the percale sheets I selected being so crisp and comfy. To pull all of the colors in this room together, the Kismet Suzani Garden rug was the absolute perfect one for this space. And to think I originally selected a different rug that was back ordered. I couldn’t imagine anything else in here.
My mom was our neighborhood Avon Lady. And she was good at it. This lamp in this space is hers from a time when she sold Avon. Being able to snag it and a few other items in this space to make it feel like her felt special. I made sure to take it easy on the furnishings so that she can continue to fill in with pieces of her own that she loves.

Primary Bathroom
Primary Bathroom Befores
We redid this space for a previous One Room Challenge from the original black to this crisp stripe and blue. And that served as the jumping off point for what we wanted to update.
Bathroom Afters
The refresh in this space was super duper light. I am attempting to not design for design’s sake. My mom loves this bathroom the way it is. I painted the vanity with left over “By the Sea” by Valspar and switched out the recessed handles for these simple unlacquered brass knobs. Added these beautiful piece of art, gifted by Artfully Walls and brought in little decorative touches. Like the bedroom, all of the knick knacks in this space were borrowed from my mom the last time I went home.
