One Room Challenge Week 6: Coastal Kids Bath Reveal

one room challenge coastal bathroom trough sink and weezie towels

Happy Thursday, friends! We’re finally, FINALLY here. Through a global pandemic, an American revolution and personal issues, this bathroom finally got done. I’m truly excited. As a reminder, we decided to participate as guests in the Spring One Room Challenge to renovate our coastal kids bath. The One Room Challenge is a biannual forum -April and October- for participants to have a fun and supportive way to share their room transformations over a six week period.

Before Renovation

As a reminder, here’s where we were before.

It was a decent sized space but dark and dated. The heavy vanity definitely didn’t help.

Design Plan

Reveal Coastal Kids Bath

Trough Sink // Faucets // Soap Dish // Supply Lines // Canvas Basket // Vintage First Aid Kit // Embroidered Towels // Nautical Lights // Medicine Cabinet // Brass Towel Ring {{Similar}} // Door Knob // Striped hexagonal tiles // Direct to metal sink paint “Privilege Green” // Clare Wall Paint “Fresh Kicks

I renovated this bathroom just for the sink. It’s all I’ve ever wanted and dreamed it would be. This is a small space and the large vanity that previously lived here took up way too much of the footprint of the room and the floor. By bringing in a trough sink, we gained not only visual space to let the room breathe but also room for storage.

To acquire all of the brass fixtures for this portion of the project was a bear. Kohler only makes the fixtures for the Brockway trough sink in chrome and now nickel. Brass is not an option. So I sent them off to a brass plater to stripe the chrome finish leaving the exposed unlacquered brass. You can already see the patina around the faucets and the soap dish. I swoon every time I wash my hands which is a surplus in this quarantine.

Stool // Boat cleats // Candle // Pre-primed shiplap // Window treatment // Window frosting

We didn’t actually partner with any brands for this space with the exception of Weezie Towels and Harlem Candle Company. I love both of these women owned brands dearly. We partnered with Weezie for our {{guest bathroom}} in the last One Room Challenge and those towels are still holding up like a dream with rave reviews. So we couldn’t resist getting the bath sheets for ourselves. As for the candles, I find myself preaching the gospel of these at least once a week. I love that this brand creates these luxury scents named after the Harlem Renaissance.

Shower Curtain // Shower rod // Shower fixture // Toilet // Jute baskets // Amber shower bottles // Bottle Labels // Bath tub // White Subway tile // Blue Subway Tile // Square potty

The shower turned out to be the stuff that dreams were made of. (But also, did you peep I finally got my square potty?) I knew I wanted to keep the design simple and mirrored to our {{guest bathroom}} in here. When people’s bathroom don’t even look like they’re in the same house, I find it weird. So, I chose this simple white subway tile and paired it with the powder blue to mimic the striped floor and the guest bath. The color is almost a perfect match.

Even though this room was designed as a sophisticated, coastal kids bath that doesn’t take itself too seriously, we do take shower fixtures seriously. I used this same shower head in our guest bathroom because we love it.. It’s one of the few brass fixtures that comes with the rain shower and the sprayer, which I refuse to live without, for under $1000.

Waste basket // Bath sheets

We figured since we were all in on the brass, we might as well be all in on the brass. I pulled the same fixtures for the doors in here that we chose for our bedroom which is right next door.

Can you believe this is the only “real picture” I took of this bathroom floor? What was I thinking. One of these days, I will update the post with a full picture but it’s so difficult to photograph this tight little space.

Either way, this bathroom is everything we could have hoped for. It’s whimsical, a little coastal and still feels a bit sophisticated; the perfect kids bath. And I thank you for being along for the ride. I’m also really grateful for Linda over at the Calling It Home for providing this forum and Better Homes and Gardens for their partnership. It’s been a fun ride.
