We’re cruising into the finish line of completing spaces in our home. With that, I can go back for the spaces where we plopped furniture but didn’t actually decorate. The front of our living room is one of those spaces and I’m excited to give it a true go with decorating.
The front of our living room is closer to the entrance of our house and it feels more formal. Or at least we’d like to. But if we’re honest, we are casual and our home is casual and so our visitors -who are primarily still our adult siblings- treat it as such. It’s not unusual to see someone sprawled out on the living room sofa with a book or on the phone with zero plans to get up. And we love it that way.
Problems to Solve
None. There is not a single, solitary thing wrong with this living room. Usually when I am decorating a room (here’s an example), there are problems to solve, be they functional or organizational. There is none of that with this room. It’s perfectly fine.
And I supposed that is a problem in and of itself. I want a room that feels more than fine. I want a room that feels lived in and fun and personable and like home and I’m excited to bring that to this space.
Befores of the Living Room
Like I said, no problems with this room. Particularly cream in nature but aside from that, if I walked into a living room that looked like this, I would think nothing of it. I do want to make sure that since we are not solving any true problems, that we are not wasteful. Almost everything in this room will come from shopping the house or second hand from facebook marketplace or antique shops. I want to be mindful that since we are not in need that we don’t contribute to landfills with this one if we can help it.

Plan of Attack
These are the key items that I want to complete in this living room to have it feel finished. I will say this is the shortest list I have ever made for a room but the key pieces are already in place. The function of this space is good.
We reviewed the original footprint of our home and the previous owners removed a wall between the front and back of the living room. This lets light shine through with abandon and makes the space feel bright and lived in even with the dark wall color. It’s Endless Sea by Sherwin Williams by the way.

Moodboard for our Formal Living Room Refresh
Schumacher fabric in Olivine // Skirted table // Black lamp // Cowboy painting // Spindle Chairs // Quilting Fabric // Navy Paint // Wicker console
Almost all of these items are second hand or already living somewhere within our house and that gives me all the warm and fuzzy vibes. Can’t wait to share the process with you.
