Hydrangea and Beadboard Bedroom Refresh

Our bedroom is finally finished. We always save our bedroom design for last. It lets us plop down our bedroom stuff and get to work on the living spaces. It also gives us time to decide on our bedroom direction. We never would have selected this hydrangea wallpaper and beadboard combo without that time.

Before I jump in, if you missed out on the design plan for this room, you can click here to see it. If you have seen it, then you will quickly realize, I went in a slightly different direction than planned.

This is what our room looked like before. We kept the major furniture pieces because they functioned well for us. One of the things that I encourage people to do with design is to lean into the pieces that work for the way you live like this bed. We like a wooden bed because they are easier to dust than cloth which is key when you have bad allergies and two dogs. And it helps that no matter how our style changes, this cane bed seems to fit.

The hydrangea wallpaper in this room was the jumping off point for this room. We’ve had hydrangea “wallpaper” in our bedroom in a past house and this felt like a nice call back to it. This paper was kindly gifted by Rifle Paper Co. in collaboration with York Wallcoverings. It’s fantastic! We’ve used Rifle’s wallpaper before and it’s a high quality wallpaper that is easier to install for beginners. It doesn’t hurt that it’s vibrant and washable; perfect for real life.

And paired with this beadboard? Swoon.

This beadboard was a DIY. We opted for 5ft height using premade panels to match the primary bathroom’s and to be tall enough to have a ledge behind the bed. All without it being so short that it bumps our heads. The wall paneling in the two rooms plays together so nicely and guide your eye from one space to the next.

You can catch a peak of the bathroom paneling in this image or see it in its entirety in the original bathroom post if you’re curious.

This vintage Facebook Marketplace find is the only “new” piece of furniture. Our previous dresser was an Ikea piece that I wallpapered with Spoonflower (you can check it out here). And while we love that dresser, it just didn’t have enough space. So we opted for something older for size and quality. This empire dresser is large enough to store many of Marcus’ clothes and the scale of it makes more sense for this corner.

Topped this room off with simple neutrals like this all white bedding and jute rug. I initially planned for this gorgeous Arboretum rug from Rifle but the pattern contended with the wallpaper. When using bold prints, I like to give the eye somewhere to rest. So instead of more print and color, I opted for this more neutral rug and bedding which add a place for the eye to rest and more texture without the distraction.

I finished this space off with hints of navy, which has somehow become my signature color. I added this block print to these lamps to introduce more color and texture. A simple and practical DIY that elevated these lamps with very little money spent.

Across from the bed, we opted for a peg rail. The pegs will hold Marcus’ infinite supply of hats and my clothes that would ordinarily have been thrown on this bench at the end of the bed.
