This bedroom is a long time coming. We are finally doing our primary bedroom makeover. Usually we move into a place, throw down all of our worldly goods in the primary bedroom and start renovating. Then once we finish every other room in the house, we come back to it. So now that every other room in our house is complete. We can come back to this one. As usual, I start with the list of problems to solve and work my way from there.
Problems to Solve
Limited storage: Yes there are two closets in this room for two people. But there is not enough storage for the overflow of clothing that we have. We have a few options; we could give away clothes, create a walk in closet or maximize the storage we have. Since we’ve already culled down and a walk in closet wouldn’t make since for a home the age of ours, we’ve decided to maximize on storage in this room. By introducing under the bed storage, a large dresser and space saving solutions in our closet, we’ll get our clothing in order and reduce visual clutter.
Dog Hair: Our dogs sleep in our bedroom and so this is often the spot that ends up with the most dog hair even with regular vacuuming, dusting and air purifiers. So much of our design in this space will bend to that (i.e. no cloth headboards, shades that can’t be dusted)
Expanse of Undefined Wall and Space: Because we have an awkward little hallway entrance, there is this expanse of space at the foot of our bed that serves no purpose and feels empty and not in a good way.
Bland: Unlike our other rooms, this room is just boring and intentionally so. When we moved into this space, we did nothing except paint the walls gray so we could work with a clean slate. We want to use this as a chance to infuse color and visual interest into our bedroom
Window in Nook: The little window in the nook doesn’t really allow for curtains so we will have to work around that with a solution that is both functional and stylish.

Inspiration for Bedroom Makeover
While dreaming up this space, there weren’t many bedrooms I wanted to copy and paste into ours. But so much of what I looked at, I found myself saying, “I love the feel of this space”. So that is what we looked to for inspiration. We wanted this room to feel lived-in, organized and homey. After two years of the most drab walls, I’m sure you can see why.
