Happy Wednesday and welcome back to another week of One Room Challenge. This week, we are doing ye ole wrap up with a heavy focus on bathroom fixtures. Let’s catch you up really quickly if you are new here. One Room Challenge is a biannual event started by Linda Weinstein as a forum for support and community where designers and guest take on a room and cheer each other along. Or two rooms in our case? Is that surprising? Visit our previous weeks here to learn more about our projects before demo.

Bathroom Fixtures
After panicking for the better part of three week, Houston we have bathroom fixtures. After much, many, mucho delays due to COVID, we finally have bathroom fixtures. Sure the toilet arrived broken. But that really is a finally step in the process and not something that needs to be installed early on. Apparently that is very common for toilets as seen by another broken toilet arriving to our house for another project. Sure is life. The real necessity was the tub and it’s here! Look how beautiful and deep it is. You can see more about why I picked this tub in the week five post.
Bathroom Tile
Now that our tub is installed and looking better than I ever imagined, tile is well on it’s way. We are out of town for the week but my brother has been staying at our home both to provide updates from the contractor and to watch the pups. He’s been sending videos and pictures and I couldn’t be happier.
We went with this gorgeous blue 2×8 tile in the color “Nautical” from Fireclay tile. I have long adored Fireclay Tile for not just their gorgeous colors but their business practices as well. With American made tiles made right in Aromas, California, Fireclay is committed to the planet with zero waste practices including recycling their scraps and 100% carbon offset. All that to say, they’re sustainable and it’s a joy to use them in our home.
Please enjoy these blurry screenshots that show some of the bathroom. Better photos of course will come at a a later date. One of my favorite things about this tile is that it is available from the Quick Ship section on the website. Anything listed in Quick Ship will leave their California factories in five days or less. We didn’t use quick ship because we wanted to take advantage of trim and custom tiles.
You can see the custom tiles that we used here. At the very edge of the shower, we decided not to use a Schluter trim. Schluter is that little edge of metal that is often used with tile for a clean finish. It’s available in multiple colors and makes for a very clean finish. And while we used it before and have been happy with it, we really wanted the tile to steal all of the spot light in this room. We ordered tile with a glazed edge so that you would just see the blue facing out. Whenever you’re doing tile, I always always recommend deciding how you want to finish it incase you need to buy glazed edge tiles or trim.
Bedroom Update
There is no bedroom update this week. The bedroom is completely finished and styled as of today and I can not WAIT to show it to you next week. Can’t wait to see you then! In the interim, Go check out what the other Featured Designers are up to!
